I'm a big fan of one-stop shopping, and there's no better place to take care of all your professional needs than the 2008 Texas REALTORS® Convention and Trade Expo in San Antonio. You can earn MCE credit, learn ways to grow your business, check out products to enhance your productivity, and expand your professional network.

This year's event is set up differently than previous conventions. All governance meetings will be held September 6-8. The convention kicks off on September 9 with the Trade Expo, followed by education and networking events September 10-11.

You can register and check out a full schedule of convention and meetings events at TexasRealtors.com.

Come to San Antonio in September, whether for one day or the whole event. You'll be glad you did.

How much did you save?
The Texas Real Estate Political Action Committee helps you keep more of what you earn, and now you can calculate just how much money TREPAC has saved you. By opposing measures like a tax on mixed-use vehicles, an increase of professional fees, a tax on professional services, and a real estate transfer tax, TREPAC is always protecting you and your business. Help the PAC continue to save you money by visiting TexasRealtors.com and making an investment in your industry.

Small land transactions have big year
Last year showed a big increase in small land transactions, according to the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University. Rather than large properties, the overall land market increase in 2007 was due to small and medium properties. Learn more about Texas land-market statistics and trends at the center's Web site.

NAR, DOJ reach favorable settlement
NAR and the U.S. Department of Justice this week ended more than four years of investigation and litigation regarding how listings from multiple listing services are displayed on brokers' virtual office Web sites. NAR settled with the DOJ without financial penalty or admission of guilt.

The terms of the proposed final order validate NAR's position: MLS members must be actively engaged in real estate brokerage by helping people buy or sell homes. This will ensure that MLSs are used to help real estate professionals find buyers for people who want to sell their homes. NAR has also agreed to adopt a revised Virtual Office Web site policy that NAR will request MLSs to adopt.

Learn more about the settlement and what it means for you at Realtor.org, or listen to episode 23 of the Texas REALTOR® Update podcast.
